It is a general description of the entertainment district in Nuln. Later today I will post some stuff concerning the Four Heads an inn in the Underhaldning District. Hope you like it. The material below is copyright(c)Thomas Oesterlie 1995. The GM is free to use it in his own home campaign. Any strange words and sentences are copyright(c)toaster@pvv.unit.no ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ In the southern part of Nuln - farther south than the great bridge - the entertainment district of the city lies as an isle of merriment between the stinking Reik and the poor Alter Stadt. In this district every man and woman, every dwarf and halfling - yes, even every elf - may find what his or her heart desires. The district is packed with inns and taverns. There are a few theatres for those with more exciuisit tastes. For the cruder masses there are pit fighting arenas, pits for all kinds of animal fights, even the odd monster fight; and everywhere: prostitutes. Male and female. Although most people expect to find two features in the Underhaldning district, the Opera and the Snotball Stadium, they are not situated there. The Imperial Opera lies in the Palats district, below Empress Emanuelle’s palace, while the Snotball stadium lies outside the southern city walls. The reason for placing the stadium here, is that riots in connection with the great Snotball matches are not unknown. In fact, every time the Nulner Pipers have lost their home matches, smaller or larger riots have erupted. Luckily for the majority of the city’s population these riots have taken place outside the city walls. The Underhaldning district is never quiet. There is always an inn or a bordello that is open, no matter the time of the day. During daytime, the district is most quiet. Most establishments do not open until after mid-day. When the sun sets, the lanterns are lit in every main street of the district, and making it come alive. Inns open, the streets are crowded with men and women from all over the World. Ushers stands crying for their establishments in the streets. The cheering from The Globe can be heard, and the odd baby’s crying from an open window. Every night in the Underhaldning district is like a carnival. Lively and colourful. Most of the Underhaldning district’s activities are semi-legal. The local watch are constantly being bribed by the various establishment-owners. Most of the city’s watchmen are fighting for the possibility of getting assigned to the Underhaldning district. Either to earn lots of money, or to «root out the infection». But it is not only the watch that keeps order in the district. Horatio ‘The Hound’ Hohenzee is - alongside the Guild that-we-do-not-speak-about - keeping a good look on the district’s less legal activities. ‘The Hound’ is the local Crime Lord. He controls all of the district’s fighting pits, the betting attached to them, and all other forms of organised gambling as well. The Underhaldning district is not large. It stretches from the river-side quays four or five hundred meters into the city, and the same amount of meters down towards the southern city wall. Despite the size, the district has perhaps more inns, gambling houses, taverns and other sedious dive inns than the rest of the city in total. Naming and describing all these places would take for ever, so my friends, I will take you on a tour of the highlights of the district. COMMON KNOWLEDGE «If you’re out to satisfy your desires, the Underhaldning district is the place to be. Just watch you money!» «Behold, gentlemen: the place of your dream:. Where every dream is reality and reality is a dream.» «The Underhaldning district!!! Never has such a sinful place existed on earth! Indulging in every pleasure and perversity known to mankind. Root out Chaos. Solkan bring order to the district.» Thomas Oesterlie toaster@pvv.unit.no http://www.pvv.unit.no/~toaster ------------------------------------------------------------- PVV - The Software Workshop; University of Trondheim, Norway
